Why is running/exercise/stretching a good outlet to get over anxiety/anger?

Peer pressure and school makes me either nervous or angry, just stress not too dramatic. I would just avoid my problems and just “sweep them under the rug”… it didn’t seem to help. It just make me more close minded and cold to people I used to love being around. Like most people I would worry or do nothing about my anxiety/anger. Recently I played some soccer with my annoying cousins but after I felt happy and refreshed. My mind felt clear for once. I used to run around the block then I got bored of it… Lately my muscles have been spazzing so I started stretching from what I remember from ballet. I felt pure and simple. My mind no longer had angry and bitter thoughts. I had positivity for life. Today I feel like running it’s so strange. People always complain how boring and hard exercising is… I think it gets out all the bad mental activity. Why is running/exercise/stretching a good outlet to get over anxiety/anger?

ecercise releases endorphins, endorphins make you happy. When you are happy you can’t be angry. Thus your anger goes away

I workout at least 3 times a week to help relieve the stress my mind and body collect from school, work, and just your everyday life. It gets your blood flowing and releases chemicals into your body. Your body creates and releases Serotonin which is the chemical that “makes you happy”
My advice to you is to keep up with your physical activities, whether it is soccer or working out, either way just stay physical for a happier healthier you!!

Good luck and Take Care…

There’s a few reasons.

1) Most things that make us angry nowadays are not resolved in physical ways. When we get upset or are worrying about something, it triggers the stress response (adrenaline, cortisol, etc are released) and the change in our bodies gets us ready for either fighting or running, but instead we don’t do anything physical, and this wreaks havoc on our bodies. Exercising provides a healthy outlet for dealing with the stress response and returning your body to baseline.

2)If you exercise for long enough and hard enough, your body will release endorphins (i.e. painkillers/opiates) which will make you feel really good (known as the runners’ high).

3)Improves your self esteem

A possible explanation is that physical activity stimulates the production of endorphins. Endorphins are the neurotransmitters that make one “feel good”.
